Artist Statement
“I am an artist whose work embodies a moody and dramatic aesthetic, achieved through the use of one or two lights and a shallow depth of field. While I primarily use a digital camera for my work, I also dabble with film cameras to explore their unique aesthetics.
My artistic vision is shaped by the works of Robert Mapplethorpe, Richard Avedon, and Irving Penn, whose approach to photography inspires me to embrace freedom and clarity in my work. To tell a story, I often choose random topics, reveling in the mystery of what comes next.
While I rarely encounter obstacles in my creative process, when I do, I go back to the basics of photography and recalibrate my camera to its standard shooting design for flash. I then adjust the settings as needed to bring my vision to life.
My work is not message-oriented, but it does have a clear purpose. For instance, in one of my favorite pieces, I aimed to capture the essence of a mystical and captivating forest, evocative of the enchanting world of Snow White. Through the image, I sought to convey a sense of isolation and detachment from the world beyond as if the viewer is witnessing a moment of solitary contemplation amidst the tranquil beauty of the forest. The interplay of light and shadow adds depth, drama, and an air of mystery, inviting the viewer to wonder what lies beyond. Through my work, I discover more about myself, realizing how I infuse a bit of myself into every piece I create.”
In addition to his commercial work, he’s is currently working on two projects—a photography history book with short essays, techniques, and design insights, and a study on the impact of U.S. laws on national and international citizens, alongside his commercial work.
